Mirre - Process (01.2005)
This method allows for a rather unique textured feel. The wax is a little oily in consistence but very easy to work with. It does not drip or 'gloop' and can be scraped into with forks, combs, or piled on top with a sort of stippling method. It also takes a while to dry, so it can be textured and carved into without any worry of it drying out. It has a rather pleasant smell and is not toxic.
I used disposable plastic cups because it gets pretty messy and didn't feel like attempting to wash out wax. I put a good chunk of Briwax into the bottom of plastic cups and then blended different shades of black and grey by mixing in acrylic paint. The lighter parts obviously have more wax and less paint. I then used a rather large brush to apply it to the paper, working in a few layers, mixing shades as I went along. I used a plastic fork and other pointy objects to scrape into the painted wax surface to create different textures. Finally I hung it up to dry from a line with some clips.
